How do I prepare for an MRI scan?
MRI of the shoulder joint is painless and non-invasive, but does require adequate preparation:
- Metal-free: Wear clothing without metal parts. You will be asked to remove your jewellery, watch, belt and any other items containing metal before the examination.
- Leave electronics in the cloakroom: Phones, mp3 players and other devices must be left outside the examination room.
- Previous examinations: Bring the results of previous imaging examinations (X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MR) if they have been performed.
- Make-up and contact lenses: For the head examination, wash off your make-up and be ready to remove your contact lenses.
- You do not need to be fasted: Only the abdominal examination requires you to be fasted.
Contraindications to magnetic resonance imaging:
- Absolute contraindications: Metal braces, artificial heart valve, implanted pacemaker, metal implants in the ear, metal foreign bodies in the body.
- Relative contraindications: Joint prostheses, bone anastomoses, tracheotomies - an appropriate certificate is required in these cases.
The examination does not include the administration of contrast.
