Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the Brachial Plexus without Contrast

MRI of the brachial plexus is a modern, non-invasive imaging technique that allows for highly detailed evaluation of the nerve structures responsible for innervating the upper limb. The brachial plexus is a complex network of nerves originating from the cervical and thoracic spinal cord segments, which can be affected by trauma, overuse, or degenerative changes.

This contrast-free MRI examination is completely safe and does not require the use of contrast agents, eliminating the risk of allergic reactions. With advanced diagnostic equipment at Rehasport, we provide high-resolution imaging that enables the detection of even subtle abnormalities, such as compressions, inflammatory changes, post-traumatic injuries, or tumors.

This test is recommended in cases of:

• upper limb injuries (e.g., due to traffic or sports accidents),

• suspected peripheral nerve damage,

• chronic pain in the shoulder, neck, or arm,

• neurological symptoms (numbness, muscle weakness, sensory disturbances),

• tumor diagnostics within the plexus region.

Contraindications:

• implanted pacemakers or other electronic devices incompatible with magnetic fields,

• metal implants, screws, vascular clips, or joint prostheses (if not MRI-compatible),

• first trimester of pregnancy (performed only in justified cases and after medical consultation),

• severe claustrophobia (please notify the staff in advance – sedation or referral to an open MRI scanner may be possible).
